The Correct Foot Trim for Polo Ponies
This video shows a polo horses foot the was incorrectly trimmed by the previous farrier, (2 weeks ago) We show the problem and the correct trim to prevent further damage to the hoof that currently has corns underun heels, (link Below) even though it was only shod 2 weeks before we filmed .

Pretty interesting...don't often think about the special needs of the hoofs of polo ponies. I would expect since polo ponies are "cutting" type horses, quick moves...like the American horses used for roping cattle, etc. their hoof needs would be similar. Thanks for the video. I learned something new.

Not allway. But if i can safely fit a shoe that allows the horse to continue playing there's no reason not to
“Heel support” - my two favorite words in horse shoeing. Nice to see a farrier more concerned about supporting the horse from the ground up than losing a shoe. The owner is lucky to have such a hand on his team.

Actually just the opposite. Polo always billed as Sport Of Kings. Played w mallet. This is Polocross. Much much faster and no patrons to fuck around with. Its like Aussie rules football vs golf. Women also have much better footing in the sport than in polo. Horses are always athletes that love their job. Blue collar sport while going mach 10 and sticks always hurt like a bastard. Love love love it

With all that glue on there won't that stop as natural blood flow into his foot by letting the put expand I think bohrium would have been a better idea and a pad
Hi Larry, I find that horses that do a lot of road work and need a lateral extension respond better to supporting the foot with the shoe and allowing for the natural slip of the shoe on the road, this is better than adding bohrium to the shoe as this grips the road surface so increases the impact forces on the limb putting more stress on the joints that are already struggling , Thanks for you comments.

Just to let you know, a lot of folks REALLY love to see the whole reshaping of the hoof - we find it very soothing to see the whole process. So don't be afraid to show the whole thing. (of course you'll always have the amature ferriers having a go at something or other than you did, but for the rest of us, we love to see the whole process!)

It's asinine that some farriers conform the horses foot to the shoe instead of the other way around. I have had a couple of farriers do that to my barrel horse and she goes lame in the matter of days. Great job! Its nice to see a farrier love his job instead of just making a quick buck :)
